| 02:04 | <nicolas> | hi |
| 02:07 | <nicolas> | I have ported a kernel named toppers on xen as domU using mini-os libraries. |
| 02:07 | <nicolas> | This OS use serial link for display and input. |
| 02:07 | <nicolas> | For printing messages I use the hypercall console_io with the consolio_write parameter. |
| 02:07 | <nicolas> | For reading the console input I wanted to use the same hypercall with consolio_read parameter. |
| 02:08 | <nicolas> | But I don't well understand how console sharing works on xen. |
| 02:08 | <nicolas> | Because, In order to call this function I need first an interupt or an event for event channel or something like that , isn't it ? |
| 02:08 | <nicolas> | or should I proceed differently ? |
| 02:08 | <nicolas> | could someone help me please ? |

| 05:16 | <isen_> | Hi. If anyone got a spair minute I got a question. Im trying to use Xen 3.0 with gen-3.0.1.gz kernel. When I boot up i get kernel panic with some info, the system boots up so fast so i can't read it but i guess it is because i use sata harddrivers and need to re-compile the kernel BUT i can't find the soruce for it. |
| 05:17 | <isen_> | I have looked at some pages, but the directory dosn't exists. Do i to install the soruce and compile to source code to do this? Or should it be doable with the tarball with binarys. |
| 05:19 | <isen_> | It's mostly the command "make ARCH=xen xconfig" comand i'v heard about from dir /usr/src/"vmlinux-xen" or something like that, but that directory dosn't exists and i can't find any files/dir in the tarball that can be usefull. |

| 14:21 | <mcr> | can someone explain to me the bug/limitation of having serial consoles for dom0? |
| 14:22 | <murb> | mcr: they work fine using the xen driver |
| 14:22 | <murb> | for the serial port. |
| 14:22 | <murb> | you get a xen and linux serial console in one. |
| 14:23 | <mcr> | okay. does this work on Xen3, or just Xen2? |
| 14:25 | <murb> | both |
| 14:25 | <mcr> | okay, thanks. |
| 14:26 | <mcr> | so, do I put console=ttyS0,38400 on the xen line as well as on the kernel line? |
| 14:28 | <murb> | something like that. |
| 14:28 | <murb> | actually no |
| 14:28 | <murb> | com1, ... |
| 14:28 | <murb> | i'll just check my config.. |
| 14:28 | <mcr> | fc5_test2 got the console= right for the kernel, but didn't put anything for the xen part. |
| 14:28 | <murb> | i have com1=9600,8n1 |
| 14:29 | <mcr> | (it also presently isn't working) |
| 14:29 | <mcr> | and that tells Xen that the console is com1? |
| 14:29 | <murb> | yep |
| 14:30 | <mcr> | well Xen fail to boot on an SMP, or just fail to use both threads of the CPU? |
| 14:31 | <mcr> | s/well/will/ |
| 14:31 | <katzj> | mcr: yeah -- I should hack anaconda to dtrt with serial console and xen kernels too. mind filing a bug? |
| 14:31 | <mcr> | okay. I'll do that. |
| 14:32 | <katzj> | thanks :) |
| 14:32 | <mcr> | good. |
| 14:32 | <mcr> | now I can capture the bug from the linux kernel itself. |
