| 08:54 | _PiGreco_ | i found an uml bug |
| 08:54 | _PiGreco_ | 2.4.27 version |
| 08:58 | _PiGreco_ | nobody cares |
| 08:58 | _PiGreco_ | good. |
| 09:03 | zigger | not that I could do anything about it, but I was mildly interested in hearing what it is |
| 09:04 | _PiGreco_ | i dont know why it happens, but it seems to be a vfs problem, occurring in iget() function |
| 09:05 | _PiGreco_ | i'll try to tell it to jdike, if he shows up, but it will be difficult |
| 09:05 | _PiGreco_ | last time i tried to contact him i got no response. |

| 10:03 | _PiGreco_ | hello jdike |
| 10:03 | _PiGreco_ | i have a weird problem on iget() in uml |
| 10:03 | _PiGreco_ | spent days in debugging |
| 10:04 | _PiGreco_ | and the weird happens |
| 10:04 | _PiGreco_ | interested ? |
| 10:05 | jdike | _PiGreco_: interested in debugging your code? not really |
| 10:05 | _PiGreco_ | ahah |
| 10:05 | _PiGreco_ | it seems to be an uml code |
| 10:05 | _PiGreco_ | s/code/bug/ |
| 10:05 | jdike | _PiGreco_: i.e. my bug? |
| 10:06 | _PiGreco_ | i dont know so well uml internals |
| 10:06 | _PiGreco_ | not enough to judge |
| 10:06 | _PiGreco_ | what happens is |
| 10:06 | _PiGreco_ | iget() calls iget4_locked() ok ? |
| 10:07 | _PiGreco_ | remember that part of vfs? |
| 10:07 | jdike | _PiGreco_: OK |
| 10:07 | _PiGreco_ | ok, i put a breakpoint just after iget4_locked() |
| 10:08 | _PiGreco_ | inspecting inode struct returned i can see it is a new inode |
| 10:08 | _PiGreco_ | but inode->i_state is = 0 |
| 10:08 | _PiGreco_ | then going on there is an if() |
| 10:08 | _PiGreco_ | checking against I_NEW and I_LOCK |
| 10:09 | _PiGreco_ | still ok ? |
| 10:09 | _PiGreco_ | mh wrong |
| 10:10 | _PiGreco_ | just I_NEW |

| 10:11 | jdike | _PiGreco_: the thing is, there's no UML-specific code there |
| 10:12 | _PiGreco_ | ok but the thing is that if() fails (inode->i_state is 0) but *immediately* after that if, just before the return, inode->i_state is 72 |
| 10:12 | _PiGreco_ | but nobody touched it |
| 10:12 | _PiGreco_ | i was wondering if it could be a thread sync problem but i have *no idea* on how the uml patch works |
| 10:13 | _PiGreco_ | maybe i am thinking the wrong thing.. |
| 10:13 | jdike | _PiGreco_: you've checked that the value of inode is the same? |
| 10:13 | _PiGreco_ | of course i did |
| 10:14 | _PiGreco_ | i just imagined the inode struct could have been filled up by another thread and there was a sync problem or similar |
| 10:14 | _PiGreco_ | is that possible or i have to look somewhere else ? |
| 10:19 | jdike | _PiGreco_: no |
| 10:19 | _PiGreco_ | "no" not possible or "no" dont look somewhere else ? |
| 10:21 | jdike | not possible |
| 10:22 | _PiGreco_ | mh ok..i wonder what is the one who changes that value then. |
| 10:22 | jdike | somewhere in that code |
| 10:24 | _PiGreco_ | there is not that much to check..it is just *inode = iget4_locked() and then if(inode && (inode->i_state & I_NEW)) |
| 10:27 | bodo | hi jdike |

| 15:58 | [bman] | For instance, would I have to make two tunnels, bridge them and then add them to the arguments of my uml kernel? I would eventually run out of tun's to link multipule uml's together, so that isn't a good one... |
| 16:00 | Newsome | [bman]: Just connect everything to the bridge, then you're only using one tuntap device for each UML |
| 16:03 | [bman] | Newsome, Im setting up a test network for some snmp stuff. I have a uml that manages the gateway/router stuff, that is bridged to the host's network (yes, I've setup ebtables to make sure bad stuff doesn't happen), so I guess what I am asking is: I would like another nic on the gateway uml that will host a bridge (actually a switch using brctl) for connectivity to the other uml's on that network. |
| 16:05 | Newsome | [bman]: To add another nic to the UML, just put another eth section onto the command line |
| 16:07 | [bman] | ok, but the eth argument needs a transport. so I would have to create another tap (say tap5 as the gateway's internal nic). back on the host computer bridge tap5 -> tap[6-9] (for the switch) and use tap[6-9] for the hosts on the 'vitual network'? |
