| 08:10 | <babilen> | And1: Hei, it's just one of those little scripts in ~/bin - found it years ago and use it for what it is good. There are certainly other/better ways to do it. |

| 15:26 | <linuxguy> | ml|, thanks, i undrstand what you say, but i still end up with same thing with debian, i can only assume its that vga=791 thatsss messing things up, eg if i install livecd / install sabayon using exacr same ddriver, i get what i need, use same driver with debian and it struggles |
| 15:27 | <ircipimp> | or do i have to perform the necessary steps manually, run debootstrap, enter the chroot, install dependencies and build? |
| 15:27 | <ml|> | linuxguy: the vga=791 is for grub freambuffer not for X |
| 15:30 | <ml|> | linuxguy: sometimes X/udev does not set things up correctly and you need to manually add stuff to /etc/X11/xorg.conf /msg dpkg xstrikeforce will explain on that wiki page; but you are things differently and that might not help; worth a shoot tho if you want to keep using nvidia.com drivers; but again not supported here |

| 21:21 | <linuxguy> | ml|, its the 9500gt card 1gb, the reason i am blaming nvidia is that 90% of the didtro i have used the card on i get abuitifull crisp reolution, as soon as i install the drivers either it be debian fedoras rpmfusion, i get dreaded tty1 screen, only distro it works flawlessly with is sabayon |

| 23:24 | <sney> | no |
| 23:24 | <sney> | it's based on it, maybe |

| 23:26 | <stsm> | hahahah |
| 23:26 | <stsm> | this is hilarious :D |
| 23:26 | <ankush> | ok how abt sid |
| 23:26 | <sney> | !sid |
| 23:26 | <dpkg> | sid is the <unstable> version of Debian. Sid is the destructive kid in Toy Story. It is NOT an acronym, but is sometimes backronymed Still In Development anyway. Do not use sid unless you have the skill to find your way out of the mess that broken packages may put you in; sid is not supported in #debian because sid users should be able to solve their own problems. Sid will never be released. See also <sid faq> <unstable>. |
| 23:27 | <ankush> | when everything is debian then why segregate channeld |
| 23:27 | <stsm> | ankush, they took debian, and adepted it to their own thing |
| 23:27 | <sney> | by that token, you're off topic twice because you're using a livecd distro based on the unstable part of debian, neither of which are supported here |
| 23:27 | <stsm> | so its just not debian |

| 23:54 | <gsimmons> | mm: The chipset is supported by the atl1c driver, added in Linux 2.6.30. You can use the kmuto installer for device support during Debian installation. |
| 23:54 | <gsimmons> | dpkg: tell mm -about kmuto |
| 23:54 | <Cygnus> | kop: Did you find anything relevant, this machine has been running i believe since potatoe? |

| 23:56 | <Cygnus> | Never mind, night is still young and it can make a good night reading. |
| 23:56 | <kop> | Cygnus: I've not been following your thread. I find that unless the release notes are followed (and even then) trouble ensues. The release notes have a bug etch->lenny. You need to do "aptitude install aptitude apt-get" first thing or else some sort of apt something does not get updated. |
| 23:56 | <sney> | stsm: I'd ask what your cross compile question is, but last time I did anything about that, the newest gcc was 2.95 :x |
| 23:57 | <kop> | Cygnus: There's a thread in the bts. I think it might be filed against "release"?? |
| 23:57 | <stsm> | sney, ok, comming up |
| 23:57 | <stsm> | can i choose to compile just a few programs of my choice to static binaries, while not having to take care of dependencies manually? |
| 23:57 | <stsm> | crosscompile i mean of course |
| 23:57 | <sney> | I think so yes |
| 23:57 | <stsm> | reading about apt-cross and dpkg-cross but i think what i try to do is something that's not very common, can't find something about it so far |

| 23:58 | <Cygnus> | kop: thx i'll take a look, got to reboot now. Kernel just finished upgrading |
| 23:58 | <stsm> | misses a few instructions from what i read, but i got an external toolchain for it that so far worked fine, also for other people |
